Please Review the Tournament Rules

SubTheOpps Tournament Official Rules

1. MATCH OBJECTIVE

- Win by submission, points, or referee decision.

- Matches can end early by disqualification (DQ) or if an opponent cannot continue.

2. MATCH FORMAT

- Match Duration: 3, 4, 5, or 6 minutes depending on age and belt rank.

- First half of the match: Submission only (no points, ADCC style).

- Second half: IBJJF-style points system combined with submission points.

- New Rule: In the second half of the match, submission points (for submission attempts and deep submissions) will also be applied in addition to positional points. This encourages continuous submission attacks while still allowing positional scoring.

- Absolute Overtime: Submission points (for submission attempts and deep submissions) will also be applied during all overtime rounds in Absolute Division matches.

3. SCORING SYSTEM

IBJJF Points (during second half): - Takedown: 2 points

- Sweep: 2 points

- Knee on Belly: 2 points

- Guard Pass: 3 points

- Mount: 4 points

- Back Control (hooks in): 4 points

Positions must be stabilized for 3 seconds to score.

Submission Threat Points:

Submission must be held 3 seconds for

point. If it gets deeper another three second period is needed for second point. If the submission is deep From the beginning and the three seconds are achieved. You will receive the 2 points.

- Submission Attempt (1 point): A submission that is set up and secured but not yet at full finishing depth. It forces the opponent to defend but does not present an imminent danger of a tap.

- Deep Submission (2 points): A fully locked-in submission that poses a significant threat of finishing, requiring serious effort to escape.

Examples of Submission Attempts (1 point):

- Triangle choke locked but the opponent is postured up and creating space. - Armbar setup where the opponent is stacking and defending early.

- Rear naked choke with the arm across but no full lock or tight squeeze.

- Guillotine applied but the opponent maintains posture and grip fighting.

Examples of Deep Submissions (2 points):

- Triangle choke fully locked and tight, breaking posture with a clear choke.

- Armbar fully extended with the opponent's arm at full lockout, requiring urgent escape. - Rear naked choke locked under the chin with full control, deep squeeze in progress.

- Guillotine applied deep, with full elbow-in alignment and opponent visibly struggling.

**Important Notes:**

- No submission can be initiated from out of bounds.

- Submission points (attempts and deep submissions) can only be awarded during the second half of regular matches or in overtime during Absolute Division matches.

- There will be no advantage points awarded in this tournament.

No advantages. Stalling penalties are enforced during the second half of regular matches and during Absolute Overtime rounds.

4. STALLING CRITERIA & PENALTIES

Defined as intentionally delaying or avoiding engagement without progress for 20-30 seconds.

Examples of Stalling:

- Standing still on the feet without engaging grips or takedown attempts.

- Sitting in guard without working sweeps, submissions, or positional advancement.

- Holding an opponent in closed guard without attempting submissions, sweeps, or breaking posture.

- Maintaining side control or mount without advancing or attempting submissions.

- Backing away from the opponent repeatedly without re-engaging.

- Pushing an opponent away and standing still to avoid action.

Penalties:

1. First offense: Verbal warning.

2. Second offense: Opponent is awarded 1 point.

3. Third offense: Opponent is awarded an additional point. 4. Fourth offense: Disqualification.

**Special Rule:** If both competitors are not engaging (both stalling), both will receive the stalling penalty at the same time. If both reach the fourth stalling offense and are disqualified:

- In regular matches: The competitor with more points at that time will advance. If no points have been scored by either competitor, the referee will decide who the winner is based on aggression and initiative.

- In Absolute Division matches: If both are disqualified, and no points have been scored, an additional overtime will be held. A coin flip determines who starts in a dominant position (back control, half guard, or closed guard).

**Note:** Stalling penalties are enforced during the second half of regular matches and during Absolute Overtime rounds.
